"Life is Music"

Zelal Gökçe

Zelal Gökçe received singing courses from the opera singer Marsel Adamadze in Pera Fine Arts Academy. She is also a graduate of Turkish Folk Music Department of Turkish Music Conservatory, İstanbul Technical University. She took part in Koma Azad’s second album, Buhiştamin. She sang the strans (Kurdish folk songs) such as Ax le Nurê, Dera Sorê and Zara in Şahîya Stranan I and II. She was also a member of Koma Asmin, a women music band, and participated in many national and international concerts, organizations and festivals. She sang Dılo and Qumrîke for the albums; Homegrown İstanbul Volume I and Ten Songs in Ten Languages (Tell) respectively. She sang the TV serial Seher Vakti’s soundtrack titled the same. She participated in the Carovana Festival that took place in Italy, with her project of women’s mourning songs. She also participated in the Diwan-a Dubeyti project of composing Baba Tahir ê Uryan’s poems as both a singer and composer. She prepared and presented the TV program “Women’s Way” with Burcu Yankın,Feryal Öney and Özlem Taner. She took part as one of the main characters by singing in the documentary titled Turkei Die Kinder Der Sonne of German TV programme SWR (Südwestrundfunk). She made her first solo album, Solin (Flower Garden) in 2012.
